I’m curious to how you guys wash your vehicles engine? I just open the hood and go at it with a pressure washer, if you have a more efficient way please share it with me. Thanks.

why is your engine getting dirty so often?

I would think you would need to wash up your engine only once in a long time.

After you get it clean, I think just wiping it down with cleaner (or even just water) and towel should be sufficient for the subsequent times.

There is no need to unless it’s an old classic for car shows or you are trying to pinpoint any oil leaks. Washing the engine can damage the electronics if moisture gets in.

I would get black magic or autozone engine Degreaser/ engine shine. spray it on the blue shop towels and just wipe it. If you spray it with water or use the can right on the engine, you could cause damage to wires or other parts that’s not suppose to get wet.

for the most part very few people wash the engine, if there is no oil leaks, then generally dirt does not collect unless something gives it a reason to stick to it. the best way is to use a steam cleaner, while the motor is running.and be careful not to force any heated steam into electrical connections or electronic boxes on the fender wells. and do not shoot steam or water into the distributor cap. by leaving the engine running all you have to do is drive it around for a while, the last thing I cleaned was early 90s thunderbird, and a few sensors popped on, but when I drove it for about 45 minutes the lights went out.
I had a roommate who worked for a detail guy, his boss used to send him to a car wash he used the no soap option. because with the engine hot, the water will just knock the grease and grime off almost instantly. I watched him do several cars, and after that did some of my own, but I never thought it was a good idea to spray cold water, onto a hot motor. Steam cleaning solves that problem, but as I said you can get steam, which turns to water, in the wrong places if you are not careful, so unless for some reason your engine was covered with oil, and has dirt stuck to it, and you just cannot take it anymore, try to get it steam cleaned somewhere.. I had a friend call me once, after he used that engine gunk crap, on a cold motor, it did what it said, but he shot water into his distributor cap, we dried out his points, and the plug wires in the distrubutor cap as best we could, I finally got it running on two cylinders, my friend was freaking out, he thought his engine was wrecked, then another cylinder caught, I had him feathering the gas, and keeping it running, he was making more noise at one point than the engine, I told him to keep it running, pretty soon we had a six cylinder v8, and when all eight started firing he was the happiest guy in the state, he said what do I do now? and I told him drive it until you think the engine is dry, and off he went happy as a guy in a mint 1970 torino with a 351

i will give you some tips on how to clean your engine, the cleanness and safer way to do it.
    1. cover the parts that are not to be wet, such as spark plugs, alternator, starter and fuses. You can use cloth first then cover it with plastic to make it sure.
    2. clean it with kerosine first, you might use a paint brush to clean inner parts of the engine. You can use in engine degreaser if you want instead of kerosine to remove oil and dirt in your engine.
    3. Then spray it off with high pressure water to remove the dirt. You can use detergent soap to clean it more especially the part that kerosine and degreaser does not remove.
    4. you can dry it with cloth and spray with high pressure air to remove and dry excess water.
    5. You can use wax under the hood and armorall to all black part of your engine.
cleaning your engine is one way of maintenance, you can do this as often as you want or feels like doing it. I suggest you can regularly clean your engine as often as you clean the exterior of your car. Hope this help!

take it to a detailing shop to get it done as there are too many electronics under today’s cars hoods and when they get wet you have problems.
