I accidentally drove my car through about 1ft of standing water in poor visability conditions (rainy night). The car floated for a bit until I gassed it to get myself out of the water. No water got inside the passenger compartment as far as I know. Then the car had a funny smokey smell and what looked like steam coming out from under the hood on my drive back to my house about 0.5 miles away. All electrical systems were still running when I parked it. But I’m worried. What should I do with the car now? Is it safe to drive? What might go wrong under such conditions? My biggest fear is that water might have splashed into the engine. How would I know if that has happened?
I tried to get it to start I was going down hill, put it in 1st, let clutch out, then 2nd, didnt work. I think I have 2 problems, it wouldnt crank, so I think its a bad connection where my clutch pedal needs to be pressed in to start, I fiddled with it and it turns over now. But it wont start up. it may be flooded, I will let it sit. I also have a problem every now and then when i am driving it sort of backfires and I lose a bit of power. My friend said it was the fuel pump? Car is just sitting now, hope I dont have to tow it. I changed the fuel filter and added a techron treatment just an hour ago, when on a drived. This is all the facts, anyone an expert what do you think I should try?
I will start my car and hit the brakes to change to drive and my lights will act like they are going out. My car also sounds like it wants to stop and I have to restart it. I don’t know if it needs a new battery or spark plugs or what.
I was driving down my street about 20mph, when my grand cherokee 1993 (automatic) just stopped moving forward, it was just rolling like it had kicked itself into neutral, even though my gear shifter was on Drive. I tried to slow down and pull over to the side of the road, but i had lost all power to my steering and brakes, so i cranked my jeep over, and jammed down on the brake until the car stopped, and then when I shifted into Park it made a really big grinding noise. I tried to shift into drive, but when I did my car still wouldn’t drive. I Parked again, turned my car off, and it would not start back up. It won’t shift out of park either, when I press my brake (which is totally locked stiff). Can anyone help in anyway? I’m going to go see if we can somehow get it back to the house with my dad tomorrow morning (maybe by shifting the 4wheel- drive gear stick into neutral?), but I was wondering if anybody maybe had an idea what happened? Losing power steering/brakes seems completely unrelated to my car losing momentem (maybe transmission is bad, or computer is telling the car to do something?). Any help would be of beneift, thanks!
I have a 6 cylinder 2 drive 19994 Jeep Cherokee that is stalling while idling. I’ve noticed it does not stall while in park but only while I am stopped in Drive. I can restart it by putting the jeep into neutral and trying again.
All the fluids have always been topped up and it has a new battery. If anyone can offer any advice on what they cause could be it would be greatly appreciated!
Merry Christmas. And the transmission is auto..
it’s a 68 ford 200 cid with a c4 transmission and i am wondering if the engine is idled too high will it cause the engine to stall when put into drive? im assuming it’s idled higher than the transmission stall..
would that be possible?
I’m filling a flat tire with Fix-a-Flat today, but I won’t have enough $ to get a new tire until next week. I have to drive pretty far on the expressway to get to work. Will I be okay? Thanks.
The EPA just released a report saying the Hummer H2 is the fifth most poluting car on the road. If you look at all of the emissions that are given off in manufactureing. The more enviormentally friendly car is the H2 campaired to the hybrids. The EPA people need to look more at cars and manufactureing before just looking at the end product.
